You Can’t Help But Have a Good Time at ‘Winterfest’
More than 400 people attended this year’s ‘Winterfest’ outing held February 13th – 15th in Houghton Lake. The weather was great for fisherman, but poor for our snowmobilers due to rain just before the event. At this year’s event there was something for everyone: Bingo (Friday & Saturday nights), Kids fishing contest (Saturday), Fish Bowl (random drawing for prizes), Silent Auction, Poker Run, lots of great door prizes, Chili and hot dogs (courtesy of UAW Local 602) and a Pancake breakfast (courtesy of UAW Local 652), along with a great deal of camaraderie and socializing.
It takes a lot of work, by a whole lot of people, to make an outing of this magnitude work. Our thanks to the Houghton Lake Visitors Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, Merchants Association, Lake Association and the Atrium Inn. Special thanks to all of the Board of Directors who have worked diligently to make this a special event for our membership. Upcoming Events to Take Note Of
Other events that are coming up shortly are: The annual Lansing Sport Fishing Show which will be held March 12th – 15th. It will be held at the Lansing Center. We have a special coupon where all UAW and GM Lansing members will get a buy 1 get 2 entrances into this show.
Next on the agenda will be the Sunday, May 17th ‘Swing into Spring’ clubs golf outing scramble. The outing will be held at Glenbrier golf course in Perry, MI. The scramble will consist of 3-man teams and the cost per team will be $165.00. It’s been a few years since we’ve done a golf outing and it sure would be great if we could fill the course up. There will be prizes, Hot dogs and chips at the turn. Click HERE for info.
All proceeds above cost will be donated to the Lansing area’s Angel Flight organization. This organization of pilots, donate their time, their planes, and quite often their own money to make sure that patients with medical problems that can not be taken care of here in Lansing, are flown to the appropriate hospitals that can. Many, many children as well as adults have been flown all over the country to receive the appropriate care that they need.
Our club’s Summer Picnic will be held Sunday, July 26th at the Sleepy Hollow State Park Boat Ramp pavilion. Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, chips and drink will be provided by the club. If you’d like to camp at Sleepy Hollow during the weekend, you can make your own reservations by dialing the State Park Campground Reservation #. Most of our club members that camp during the weekend reserve lots 1-54, so that we can all be together during this time. Click HERE for more info.
Bring the kids, the grand kids and the rest of your family to this annual event. Get outdoors in this great state of ours and help our future generation enjoy the fresh air, a little fishing and some great outdoorsman camaraderie. Isn’t that really what our club is all about!
