Winterfest 2010 information

Happy New Year!

On behalf of myself and the club’s board of directors,  we would like to give past president Bill Green a big thank you for all of his dedication, support and time given to the club for many, many years.  His 19 plus years as president has never been or will be done again.  We wish him good luck in all he chooses to do in his full retirement.

2009 was another very busy year for the Olds Outdoor Club and 2010 will be no different.  Because of Bill’s retirement, the new executive board of directors are as follows.  Mike Bokovoy, president,  Ken Ralston, vice president;  co-vice presidents Charlie Kyser and Mark Moubray; Secretary Gary Simpson and co-secretary Karen Jaye; Treasurer Mike Boedeker and Quartermaster Gary Hunt.

We start the year out with a few Ice Fishing Tournaments (weather permitting) in January and early February (check out our website or call Mike at 321-4570 for more information).  Then it’s right into our big event of the year ’Winterfest’.  The outing will be held in Houghton Lake February 12th, 13th and 14th.   Make your reservations early.  Room discounts are only good until the 1st of February 2010. Click here for more information.

During the annual Sport Fishing show held at the Lansing Center, the club’s board of directors will be there collecting food for MSAAH (Michigan Sportsman’s Alliance Against Hunger) and the Lansing Food Bank.

The annual Hunting and Fishing contests are the same this year starting January 1st and running through December 31st.  Entry forms are available to print HERE.

The ever popular Kids Bicycle Drawing is held during the June Board of Directors meeting.  Don’t forget grandparents, you can sign up your grandchildren throughout the year and especially at ‘Winterfest’ for this drawing.

Our ‘Summerfest’ outing had a fair turnout the last weekend of July.  Approximately 40 people were in attendance.  Because of the low turnout the last couple of years, this may be the last Summerfest outing held unless we get better attendance.  This year’s ‘Summer-fest’ will be held Saturday July 31st, at the Sleepy Hollow State Park.  There will be Camping for those of you who would like to camp for the week end with us on lots 1-54.  Reservations can be made by calling the reservation center at 1-800-447-2757.

Campers of all ages can take part in our club’s Camping Activities.  This group visits a different campground the 2nd full weekend of each month, May through October.

Add in Hunter’s Safety programs by UAW Local 652/602 (now a combined effort in conjunction with the Olds Outdoor Club), and you can easily see how it becomes another busy year very fast.  This year’s Hunter’s Safety Awareness will be held at UAW Local 652 the first weekend of August.

Unfortunately, the MUCC availability and magazine will no longer be offered through the club for our membership.

In closing, our Newsletter has gotten drastically smaller this year due to cost constraints and mailing expenses.  We are asking all lifetime retirees if they would voluntarily donate $5/year to help cover expenses.  All new retiree members will be paying $5/year membership dues.  All of this was done out of necessity.

Hope to see you at one of these events this year.  I firmly believe in the Oldsmobile Outdoor Club and what it stands for.  Involve your children, grand children and even great-grand children in the great outdoors.

They are our future!

Fraternally,

Mike Bokovoy,

President
