2008

Happy New Year

2007 was a very busy year for the Olds Outdoor Club and 2008 will be no different.  We start the year out with a few Ice Fishing Tournaments in January and February (checkout our website or call Mike at 321-4570 for more information) then it’s right into our big event of the year ‘Winterfest’. This event will be held at the Quality Inn in Houghton Lake, located on the right, just after you get off 127 on to M55. The Quality Inn will be open for us starting Friday, February 15th at 8:00am for registration signups. Hotels and Motels are listed on the back of this flyer.  Make your reservations early and be sure to tell them you’re with the Oldsmobile Outdoor Club for any possible discounts.  This is the first year in several years that we’ve held this event back in Houghton Lake and everyone is very excited to have us back as well.
During the weekend of April 11
th– 15th(new dates), the club will be at the Lansing Sport Fishing Show. The annual Hunting and Fishing contests are the same this year starting January 1st and running through December 31st.  Entry forms are available to print off of our website.
A golf outing is being explored for this Spring.   The ever popular Kids Bicycle Drawing is held during the June Board of Directors meeting.  Don’t forget grandparents, you can sign up your grandchildren in this drawing.
Our 2nd Annual ‘Summerfest’ had a nice turnout. Approximately 100 people were in attendance. Many thanks to all of the board members and reps that helped with the picnic. This years‘ Summerfest’ will be held Saturday July 26th, at the Sleepy Hollow State Park.  There will be Camping for those of you who would like to camp for the weekend with us. Reservations can be made by calling the reservation center at 1-800-447-2757 or by clicking here, which will take you to the DNR reservation center.  Be sure to request lots 1-54 in order to be with the rest of the club members. You must make your own reservations.
Campers of all ages can take part in our club’s Camping activities.  This group visits a different campground each month, May through October. A listing of these camp grounds are on the reverse side of this newsletter.
Add in Hunter’s Safety programs by UAW Local 652 and Local 602, and you can easily see how it becomes another busy year very fast.
In closing, our Newsletter has gotten drastically smaller this year due to cost constraints and mailing expenses.  It was out of  necessity.  We have tried to put in all of the major topics the club has scheduled throughout the year.  This website goes into a great more detail along with pictures of all of our events.
Take time with the family and enjoy the outdoors within this great state of ours.
                                                                Fraternally,

                                                                Bill Green
